Plague.

Not as uncommon as you might think. Almost every year there are cases Bubonic Plague in Madagascar. This year though, there is also an outbreak of pneumonic plague, which is spread person to person, making it much more contagious. 1000+ Croix-Rouge Malagasy volunteers are going door to door to provide life saving information and surveilling the disease to prevent its spread.

Health needs are huge. Arriving daily in the 1000s, people fleeing Myanmar are presenting with conditions including malnutrition, acute watery diahorrea, and also injuries. This week a 60-bed field hospital, with operating theatre, 40-patient isolation unit and 30-strong medical team, has arrived in Bangladesh. Genelle Leifso, from Canadian Red Cross, updates.

Camps are overcrowded, and there are not enough toilets or access to safe water. We've reached almost 100,000 people with emergency supplies but thousands of families remain without basics like food, water, a dry place to sleep and health care. Together with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS), we're doing everything we can to provide sanitation, health care, food, water and emergency... View more »

Drought is crippling Somaliland. More than 80% of livestock have perished in the last two years, and families have watched their income and ability to provide for their children ebb away. Deutsches Rotes Kreuz is providing cash grants to help keep livelihoods going, and to test businesses that don't rely so heavily on water.

Numbers continue to rise dramatically - 502,000 people have now fled to Bangladesh from Myanmar. The living conditions are horrific. Red Cross and Red Crescent are addressing access to clean water and sanitation - which is crucial to avoid a widespread disease outbreak. We're also providing emergency shelter, food and medical care, together with Bangladesh Red Crescent Society(BDRCS).
